The Professional and Scientific Council was established in 1978 for the purpose of studying, formulating, and recommending to administrative officers of UNI policies of interest to Professional and Scientific employees. The Council, consisting of representatives elected by division members, meets monthly during University office hours. Meetings are open to the public unless voted into executive session.

Health Insurance Rate Increases

P&S Staff,
 
HR recently made an announcement that open enrollment has begun for Health, Dental, and Voluntary Life insurance. You have until May 29th to make changes to your plan(s). Changes, including the new rates, take effect on August 1st, but are deducted from your July 31st paycheck.
 
The purpose of this message is to emphasize the importance of reviewing your coverage given the significant rate increases on the health insurance plans.

Opens forums for P&S staff regarding Policies and Procedures processes

UNI P&S staff are invited to attend one of two open forums to learn about and provide feedback regarding proposed P&S Policies and Procedures approval processes. The first such opportunity is Wednesday, May 1, from 11 a.m.–12 p.m., ITTC 136. The second opportunity is Friday, May 3, from 12–1 p.m., ITTC 136.

Your voice is an important part of this process. We hope to see you at one of these two sessions.

P&S 2013 Elections

Elections are being held for the P&S Council From noon on Monday, March 25 until 5:00 PM Sunday, March 31. Eligible P&S staff can cast their ballots via MyUNIverse, look under the Current Announcements section. Alternatively, directly connect to the Ballots page by going to https://cgi.access.uni.edu/cgi-bin/surveys/takeSurvey.cgi and logging on with your CatID credentials.

P&S Benefits Survey 2013

Earlier this year the Salary and Fringe Benefits Committee of the P&S Council conducted a survey of eligible P&S staff. The survey was completed by 190 of the 629 eligible participants resulting in approximately 30% return.

Please review the results. A list of recommendations is included at the conclusion of the report. The Salary and Fringe Benefits Committee and the P&S Council will be working to complete those recommendations.

Meet the Pres event - October 30, noon - 1 pm

All Professional & Scientific (P&S) and Supervisory and Confidential Merit employees are cordially invited to the P&S Council's Annual Meet the Pres event on Thursday, October 23 from noon-1:00 p.m. in the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center Lobby. The program will include an address by President Ben Allen, recognition of the 2012 Regents Staff Excellence Award recipients and musical entertainment. Staff are welcome to bring their lunch. Complimentary dessert will be provided.

P&S Council releases official statement regarding current budget situation on campus

The Professional and Scientific Council remains dedicated to the institutional mission of the University of Northern Iowa. The professionals that this council represents are involved in every aspect of UNI, working collaboratively to create a positive and engaging campus environment. The P&S Council recognizes the impact of budget cuts on P&S employees over the past several years. We will continue to work with those affected by staff reductions through the P&S policies and procedures to explore every opportunity for their continued presence at UNI.
