6.01 Academic Appointments
Interviewing and Recommending Candidates
1. Recommendations on appointments below the rank of professor are normally
made without consultation with the Office of Academic Affairs except that
there should be formal approval of the amount of the salary offered by means
of the "Academic Appointment Authorization Request Form." Authorization
of an official offer will not be made until there has been approval of affirmative
action compliance.
2. It is understood that the department head will consult with the appropriate
tenured staff before recommending a candidate for employment and that the
candidate will be interviewed by the staff members and the dean.
3. It is understood that the department head will seek information regarding
the candidate directly from his/her last employer and if the candidate has
not been previously employed the department head will seek information,
preferably by telephone, from the candidate's graduate department head or
dean.
4. It is understood that all recommendations for employment are subject
to approval by the President.
