Iowa Mathematics Transitions Congress

The steering committee of the Board of Regents Mathematics and Science Education Collaborative Initiative will host a Mathematics Transitions Congress from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at UNI in the Old Central Ballroom in Maucker Union.  The goal of the Congress is to assemble instructional leaders of both high school and university mathematics courses to explore and improve the math transition from secondary to post-secondary math study at Iowa’s Regent universities. Iowa State University Education Summit: The Future of Education: Responding to Uncertainty

The summit addressed critical topics and issues that impact the present and the future of formal education. Keynote speakers included Cheryl Achterberg, dean, College of Human Sciences, Iowa State University; Elizabeth Hoffman, executive vice-president and provost, Iowa State University; Jill Conrad, senior consultant for policy and planning, McREL; and Karen Smith, chief operating officer, National Commission on Teaching and America's Future. Guests learned about the need for strategies to help Iowa's schools and stakeholders successfully navigate into the new world of the 21st century. Discussion questions focused on technology, economy, retention and recruitment of teachers, student learning and more. Iowa Mathematics & Science Education Summit

UNI president, Benjamin Allen, and Iowa Department of Education Director, Judy Jeffrey, hosted an Iowa Mathematics and Science Education Summit on the UNI campus.  The summit focused on the Board of Regents Mathematics and Science Education Initiative that addresses student performance, the need for more high quality teachers and state collaboration.
