Works in Progress
This project seeks to apply a combination of socio-psychological theories including dissonance, catastrophe, and prior expectancy to explain the Truman administration’s jettison of the “well considered” and “unanimously supported” policy proposal by the National Security Council not to defend South Korea against invasion by North Korea—and why the administration, in the end, decided to fight “the wrong war at the wrong time and at the wrong place.”
