The Center for International Peace and Security Studies (CIPSS) was established in the Spring of 2003 at the University of Northern Iowa. Its mission is to foster discussion, research and teaching on international conflicts and the meanings of security in the 21st Century among students, faculty and the broader Iowa community. Encouraging intellectual and civic engagement through network building, public debate and research projects, CIPSS promotes an understanding of the origins and impacts of international conflicts, their prevention, and the ways by which they can be resolved through peaceful means.
CIPSS is housed in the Department of Political Science at the College of Social and Behavioral Science. The Center includes experts in international security, international political economy and all the world's major regions, and involves associates from UNI's Departments of History and Geography.
