Philosophy and World Religions Scholarships

The Department of Philosophy and Religion has four scholarships to award. They are described below.  Other scholarships may be available to you from UNI or CHFA.  Go to www.uni.edu/finaid/ for more details.

Why you--yes you--should apply for a Philosophy and Religion Scholarship:

This is FREE MONEY!  If you receive a scholarship, you may be able to work fewer hours, or take out fewer loans, whether they be from the government or your parent.

Look over the eligibility requirements.  If you meet them, apply!  It’s not difficult.  And, don’t think you don’t deserve a scholarship—you do!

Preference means just that—preference.  When people set up scholarships, they suggest the kind of people to whom they would like to give their money.  Preferences are not requirements, so even if you aren’t in the preferred categories, you could still be awarded the scholarship.

Don’t forget: You need to apply every year for these scholarships!  Your application is the only way that the department knows that you still want or need the money.  APPLY AT www.uni.edu/finaid

Philosophy and World Religions Scholarships:

CHFA Philosophy and World Religions Scholarship for majors

$1000 per year

You are eligible if:

You demonstrate academic and leadership excellence.

You must apply every year.  Preference is given to new majors (since February 15 of the previous year). 

You may receive this scholarship for no more than four years.

George and Carylann Mucha Philosophy and World Religions Scholarship

$1000 per year

You are eligible if:

You have a minimum 3.0 GPA

You are a full-time student, first through final year, and a philosophy or study of religion major.

This award is renewable provided recipient maintains eligibility requirements, though you must apply for the scholarship every year.

Robert M. Schwyhart Memorial Endowed Scholarship  

$1500-$2500 per year

You are eligible if:

You are a study of religion major with financial need.

Preference will be given to male students with a farm family background.

This award is renewable provided recipient maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA, though you must apply for the scholarship every year.

Mabel Haywood Scholarship

$250-400 per year

You are eligible if:

Preference given to pre-theological students

This award is renewable, though you must apply every year.
