NIH Early Research Careers: Key Tips and Strategies Webinar - Feb. 10

Thursday, Feb. 10, 1:00-2:30 p.m. in the Elm Room - Maucker Union OSP will host the webinar: Navigating NIH Programs for Early Research Careers:  Key Tips and Strategies. This web conference will be geared toward investigators who are planning or developing their own independent research programs. NIH has a range of career development awards and other funding mechanisms tailored for specific groups of individuals and purposes. Deciding which to choose is often a source of confusion and frustration. NIH program staff can help you navigate these choices and develop grant applications that will have a better chance of success.   The webinar speaker, NIH's Dr. Dennis Twombly, will provide an overview of early career funding opportunities and offer tips and strategies for establishing a thriving research program. Some of the topics to be presented include:

• Career development (K) awards for basic scientists and clinicians:  which to choose (often applicants are eligible for more than one type of award)
• NIH Career Transition Awards:  K22 and K99-R00 awards
• How to get your research program started:   Apply for small/developmental grants (R15/R03/R21) or try for a full R01?
• Grant programs for New Investigators and Early Stage Investigators:  Options you can’t afford to ignore
• Recent changes in the peer review process:  New review criteria and new scoring system

There should be an opportunity to submit questions to the speaker.

Speaker: Dennis A. Twombly, Extramural Training Officer and Deputy Director, Office of Extramural Policy, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health
