Lodging

Students and parents have the option of staying overnight in a University residence hall between the two days of orientation.

Students

Students will be housed in a double room in Bender Hall with one other student of the same gender. Staying on-campus during orientation provides more opportunities for getting to know other new UNI students, interacting with current students, and enjoying informal social activities in the evening. Students who stay in the residence hall during orientation report making more connections with other new UNI students, and feeling better prepared to start their first semester. Bender Hall is not air conditioned, so plan to bring a fan if you will be staying overnight on campus. Each person will be provided a pillow, pillowcase, bedspread, and towel. Please note that accommodations are not comparable to those found in hotels (no TV, air conditioning, etc.).

Parents

Parents have the option of staying on campus in a separate area of Bender Hall, although most prefer to stay in an off-campus hotel. Accommodations in Bender Hall are not equivalent to those in a hotel. For example, in-room amenities such as television and air conditioning are not provided. For parents who wish to stay off campus, lists of area hotels are available through the Cedar Falls Tourism and Visitors Bureau at www.cedarfallstourism.org or 800-845-1955.

Hotel/Motel Lodging

Those interested in staying in a local hotel or motel can visit the Cedar Falls Visitors and Tourism Bureau web site for a detailed listing of options. www.cedarfallstourism.org/places-to-stay/default.aspx

Fees

The cost for participating in orientation is included in the new student programs/matriculation fee. This one-time, mandatory fee of $220 is charged to each student's first University bill in the fall and funds a variety of initiatives and programs for new students. Students & parents have the option of purchasing tickets to the Purple & Gold dinner and an overnight stay in Hagemann Hall for an additional fee.

Dinner Tickets:

The Purple and Gold Dinner is an orientation tradition at the University of Northern Iowa. You'll enjoy a delicious dinner, including drinks and dessert, for $12 per person. Tickets are available for purchase by cash or check during orientation check-in.

On-Campus Overnight Stay + Dinner + Breakfast:

The cost of staying overnight in Bender Hall during orientation is $45 per person for both students & parents. This price includes a ticket to the Purple & Gold Dinner, a residence hall room, and continental breakfast.
