CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- A record 160 students from across the Cedar Valley will compete in a variety of physical and mental battles at the third Cedar Valley Hunger Games event, from 2 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at the University of Northern Iowa's Rod Library. The event, hosted in partnership with the Cedar Falls and Waterloo public libraries, celebrates the love of reading and the popularity of "The Hunger Games" book series.
The Cedar Valley Hunger Games aims to simulate the intense battles that take place in the books with puzzles, riddles and activities like a three-legged race. Students are encouraged to study "The Hunger Games" trilogy prior to the event, as there will be trivia questions about the content of the book. The grand prize will be tickets to the upcoming movie "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," with additional prizes being awarded to other participating teams.
