CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Northern Iowa Youth Orchestra, sponsored by the UNI Suzuki School, has announced plans for the 2013-14 season. This chamber orchestra is looking for advanced string students in grades nine through 12.

The year will consist of two chamber music opportunities. First, students will be assigned to small chamber ensembles coached by Julia Bullard, professor of music in UNI's School of Music. Later in the season, the groups will join to form a larger ensemble to play challenging string chamber orchestra literature. Rehearsals will be held on select Friday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m., at Russell Hall, beginning Friday, Oct. 11, and continuing until Friday, Feb. 14.

Special opportunities will include performances with faculty and guests, participation in the Trio 826 Chamber Music Workshop on Saturday, Nov. 16, and a performance at UNI on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Students must have teacher recommendation for participation. Recommendation must be received no later than Wednesday, Sept. 25. There will be no formal auditions for membership. Additional playing level requirements and the teacher recommendation form are available at www.uni.edu/music/suzuki/node/270.
