CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- University of Northern Iowa student Libby Hurder, a junior majoring in interior design, from Freeport, Ill., claimed a top spot at this year's Durkan D*scover Design Competition for her carpet design. Hurder received a $2,000 scholarship and a trip to Las Vegas for the Hospitality Design Exposition.

The Durkan D*scover Design Competition was established to exhibit the talent of designers in the hospitality design field and contributes toward the education of future designers.

MaTrasa Phillips, a UNI sophomore majoring in interior design, from Ida Grove, also entered the competition, winning third place and a $300 scholarship.

"When I hear of this great news I get very excited, because it goes to show how hardworking and talented our students are; especially when they are continually recognized on that national level." said Jillissa Moorman, UNI assistant professor of interior design.
