CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The UNI School of Music and Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC) will collaborate to present the UNI Opera Gala. The gala will be held at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, in the GBPAC Great Hall, on the UNI campus. A 10 a.m. performance will be offered on Friday, Feb. 22 as part of the GBPAC Kaleidoscope series. The performances will feature the UNI Opera Ensemble under the direction of Sandra Walden, director, and Korey Barrett, vocal coach, and will feature the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra led by Rebecca Burkhardt.
The concert, an event created to benefit the scholarship and production funds of the UNI Opera Ensemble, will feature some of opera's most memorable music. Featured works include Dame Ethel Smyth's "The Wreckers," Verdi's "Il Trovatore," Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro," Offenbach's "Les Contes d'Hoffman," Kálmán's "Countess Maritza" and Bernstein's "Candide."
The gala will feature the UNI Opera Ensemble with student soloists, the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, the UNI Concert Chorale, faculty artist Jeffrey Brich, guest alumni artist Austin Kness and more.
