UNI hosts Beijing Opera performers

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa will host members of Beijing Opera for a performance and presentation at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6, in Davis Hall at UNI's Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.















'Beijing Opera Demystified' will be presented by Ghaffar Pourazar and Morimura Chie, both directors and performers of the International Center for Beijing Opera based in Beijing, China. The duo is leading a tour of workshops, lectures, and demonstrations in Iowa, visiting college campuses and public schools during the first week of November. Their presentations and demonstration will feature multiple art forms including dancing, music and drama as performed in Beijing Opera.















The two performers will demonstrate male and female roles of Beijing Opera, presenting a detailed account of the history and character types, as well as performance routines, including face painting and costumes. Workshops will provide hands-on training including movements and performance techniques.
