CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- For the fourth consecutive year, University of Northern Iowa officials report an increase in the number of students enrolled for the fall semester over the previous year. UNI's official fall 2010 enrollment is 13,201, a 0.9-percent increase over the 13,080 enrolled in fall 2009. Calculated on students enrolled through the end of the second week of class, UNI's count shows an increase of 121 students.
UNI has experienced a steady increase in enrollment since 2006, when the official fall count was 12,260 students.
"We're pleased to see our enrollment shows steady growth over the past four years," said UNI President Benjamin Allen. "That growth includes increases in new minority, new freshmen, new transfer and new international students. These increases all align with our strategic goals and reflect the quality and relevance of our academic programs."
More than 90 percent of UNI's enrollment is from the state of Iowa. UNI's retention rate for new freshmen entering the university in 2009 is 82.5 percent, an increase from the previous year.
