In 2006, the University of Northern Iowa and UNIBusiness partnered with Shanghai DianJi University (SDJU) in order to benefit students from both universities through an increased international presence.
Currently 18 students from SDJU are studying at UNIBusiness through the 2+2 partnership. This number is on the rise, as 17 students transferred to UNI during the two years prior, and between 20 to 30 additional students are expected to enroll next fall.
Enrollment in UNI's Department of Technology is expected to increase significantly in the fall and it's easy to see why. The department offers six undergraduate degrees, two graduate programs and a 90 percent job placement rate.
"There's a big demand for our graduates," said department head James Maxwell. "I get calls from businesses all the time, people saying, 'We've got an opening.'"
The high demand and increased interest in this field makes sense. According to Maxwell, "What drives America is manufacturing and technology."
The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, announced the selection of William N. Ruud (ROOD) as the 10th president of the University of Northern Iowa. Ruud currently serves as president of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
Alicia Jessip, a junior communication studies major with a double minor in Spanish and political science, is paving the path to her future at the University of Northern Iowa. As the first member of her family to attend college, she knows how to accomplish the goals she has set for herself.
"I don't want to take this opportunity for granted," Jessip says. She has taken full advantage and become involved in many of the opportunities presented at UNI.
