Lynda Yates to lecture at UNI

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Lynda Yates, an associate professor of linguistics at Macquarie University in Australia, will present her lecture "Communication, Language and Preparing for the Work Place" from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m., Monday, April 28, in Seerley Hall, Room 115, on the University of Northern Iowa campus. Refreshments will be served from 4 to 4:30 p.m.

Yates' research revolves around the adult language learning and communication in the workplace. She also focuses on speaking skills, pronunciation and interpersonal pragmatics. Yates has studied adult Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in the United Kingdom, France, Armenia and Egypt. She has taught at Macquarie University since 2009. She previously worked at La Trobe University in Australia for 18 years. Her lecture is sponsored by the Northern Iowa Student Government, TESOL Club, Anthropology Club, and the Department of Languages and Literatures.
