CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The organization formerly known as S.T.A.G.E. Inc. has officially changed its name to the Friends of Theatre UNI. The name change is made in alignment with an effort to accurately describe the focus of the organization.

Friends of Theatre UNI is a nonprofit organization of volunteers, faculty and alumni who raise funds for the University of Northern Iowa Department of Theatre and its students. Friends supports the university's theatre productions through scholarships, departmental purchases and meals. Ninety percent of all Friends donations go directly to the students.

Theatregoers may join the Friends of Theatre UNI on the first Friday of each run of shows at Strayer-Wood or Bertha Martin theatres where patrons in attendance, as well as students, get to meet and discuss the show they have just seen and performed in. These events are designed to bring home the importance of local theatre at the university level. It also gives students the chance to learn how their work impacts an audience directly.

Friends of Theatre UNI at the Strayer-Wood theatre would like to invite members of the Cedar Valley community to be a part of the development of theatre students by donating today and participating in First Friday events. For more information, visit www.uni.edu/theatre/department/about-us/support.
