Reporters are looking for topics with "news value" and experts to talk about those topics.
News Value: proximity, local angle to a national story, human interest, public interest, money, conflict, controversy, novelty, tragedy, irony, secrets, humor or sex.
The Office of University Relations can help prepare individuals for media interviews, edit opinion pieces, edit and send news releases and prepare media opportunities that are story leads on hot topics and events for media. Depending on the event, University Relations may distribute a news release or media opportunity to the media. Please contact University Relations as soon as you know about events and other news worthy topics.

Op-Ed Article: An op-ed is a creditable avenue for UNI faculty and staff to address important topics and impart their expertise to the public. Op-eds are opinion articles allow people outside the editorial board to publicly express their views.
