CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – A variety of activities are planned to welcome students to the University of Northern Iowa.
The kick-off event is the Panther Picnic serving free food to the first 1,200 students beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, outside the McLeod Center. There will be a ferris wheel, music and outdoor games. Hypnotist Chris Jones will entertain students with back-to-back shows at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.
Students are encouraged to get to know the Cedar Falls community during Panthers on Main, Saturday, Aug. 18. Buses will transport students from campus to downtown Cedar Falls from 1 to 4 p.m. Merchants will offer special promotions. Saturday evening students will celebrate with a dance party starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Maucker Union Ballroom.
A special welcome for transfer students will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29 in Ballroom C in Maucker Union. Students will enjoy free pizza and have a chance to meet other transfer students. Later that evening, a Rainbow Reception will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the GBPAC Lobby. The reception is an opportunity for UNI students, faculty and staff to welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and ally students back to campus.
