CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Botanical Center and Student Nature Society will hold its 3rd annual "Run for the Preserves" 5K at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 13. The cross-country run aims to promote awareness of UNI's natural preserves. The race will begin at the Center for Energy & Environmental Education at UNI.
"The UNI South Campus Preserves are unfortunately a well kept secret," said Billie Hemmer, preserve manager at the UNI Botanical Center. "The 5K offers an opportunity for people who do not know about the Preserves to become familiar with the natural beauty of this area."
Early registration is $15 for students from all area schools, and $20 for non-students. The deadline for early registration is Sept. 28. Participants can also sign up at 8 p.m. on the day of the race for $25. To register for the race, visit www.runningwall.com/5k-run-for-the-preserves.
The event is open to the public, and runners of all experience and skill levels are encouraged to sign up. Profits from the race will be used for upkeep and maintenance of the Prairie Preserves.
