The UNI Speech and Hearing Clinic: This clinic has been a formal affiliate of the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club for over 20 years. The Cedar Valley Sertoma Club provides monetary support periodically for a variety of projects at the clinic, including the purchase of equipment and materials.
The Sertoma Research Laboratory for Advanced Study of Communicative Disorders: The
Cedar Valley club was instrumental in mounting a state wide campaign to raise money for
the construction of this research laboratory which is connected to the Department of
Communicative Disorders at UNI. $80,000 was raised collectively by Iowa Sertoma Clubs and
it is fitting that the laboratory bears the Sertoma name. The Cedar Valley club, along
with individual member contributions, contributed over $14,000 to this project in a two
year period.
Service to Mankind Award: Each year the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club researches local
civic-minded citizens (nonSertomans) and presents one of them with this coveted award at
its annual awards banquet. The Cedar Valley Club has bestowed over 35 such awards since
earning its charter.
National Heritage Freedom Essay Contest: Ninth graders from schools within the
Cedar Falls/Waterloo area compete for savings bonds by writing an essay on "What
Freedom Means to Me." The purpose of the contest is to promote an appreciation for
our national heritage.
