Cedar Valley Sertoma Club
Board Meeting - Minutes
Thursday, September 12, 2002

Present: Paula Padavich (presiding), Lloyd Berry, Dave Greene,
Carlin Hageman, Tom Keel, Chris Neuhaus, Bill Robinson.

Chris read the minutes from the previous Board Meeting ... Carlin motioned to approve, Tom provided a 2nd, minutes approved.

Lloyd will give the Treasurer's Report at the upcoming business meeting on Tuesday, September 17.

Lloyd noted that donations have been made to the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, and for Recreation Center Volley Ball.  Lloyd distributed a draft copy of the budget from this past year.  Lloyd also announced that the books are ready for auditing and that the auditing team (Dave Greene, Bob McGill, Paul Morris, and Bill Robinson) will soon be at work.

Future ideas for the very success flag fundraiser were discussed.  Three cheers for Carlin Hageman who had the vision and the determination to guide us through this first successful year of fundraising.  Three more cheers for everyone in the club who has dug holes, sold flags, made flag poles, and helped with flag placement and/or take down on the holidays.

The Board took time out to make personal donations for the Cedar Heights PTA in response to a knock at the door from one of the younger members of our Cedar Falls community.

The Board would like the membership to consider dropping the Golf fundraiser - but to consider a golfing outing as a social event - to be discussed on Tuesday, September 17.

Carlin noted that four graduate students from the Communicative Disorders program at UNI have research projects accepted for presentation and will need to first present their research in Atlanta.  Carlin asked whether the Club would like to help sponsor these students and/or other graduate students from Communicative Disorders who will also be attending this convention.  Bill moved and Lloyd provided a second and the Board Approved a motion that the Club provide this group of students with a total of $1000 (to be shared among the students and distributed by the Communicative Disorders Dept.) to help defray the costs of their research trip.  Chris reminded the board that we are also going to provide at least $500 to the Speech and Hearing Clinic for (minutes from Business Meeting - August 20, 2002).

Carlin also announced that the Communicative Disorders program would soon move to form a Collegiate Sertoma Club.

Carlin announced that the Pancake Fundraiser Committee (Carlin, Lloyd and Angie Burda) would like to set ticket prices at $4.00 per person and $10.00 per family - this will be brought to the membership on Tuesday, September 17.  Lloyd will look into the location - but suggested that the location will probably be the American Legion Hall and that the date would most likely be on Saturday, November 2.

Paula read a letter from the Cedar Valley Hospice.  The Cedar Valley Hospice has offered to provide speakers for some of our club meetings.  Chris read thank you letters from James Lubker, UNI Dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and from Carrie Sellie, Communicative Disorders graduate student.

The Board listened with rapt attention and admiration as Bill Robinson outlined his proposals to amend the Bylaws by creating both a Club Constitution and Club Bylaws.   Some minor wording changes were recommended by the Board.  Future discussion will take place at the next Board Meeting.

Chef Bob "Catfish" Robinson invited everyone to the feast - and the Board dined like kings!
