Cedar Falls Sertoma Club
Executive Board Meeting

Minutes – 10/12/00

(Meeting held at the home of Lea Anderson)

Present:  Cliff Highnam – President (presiding), Joe Alemao – Member at Large, Lea Anderson – Treasurer, Donna Brown – 1st Vice President, Carlin Hageman – Chair of Board, Chris Neuhaus – Secretary, Paula Padavich – 3rd Vice President.

Carling Hageman initiated the discussion concerning the funding of a $3500 portable defibrillator for Cedar Falls High School.  The Cedar Falls Sertoma Club would pay for 2/3 of the cost of this defibrillator, roughly $2400, with the International Sertoma Club funding the difference through a Sertoma Community Matching Grant.  Club members suggested the possibility of funding portable defibrillators for the Senior Center and the Cedar Falls Recreation Center as well.  The Board voted to write grants in a stepwise fashion beginning with Cedar Falls High, then considering the Senior Center, and then the Cedar Falls Recreation Center.  Included in these grants would be funding to provide defibrillator training.

Cliff Highnam announced that unfortunately the Waterloo Sertoma Club is indeed disbanding.  Invitations will be made to all members of this Waterloo Club to join the Cedar Falls Sertoma Club.

Discussion turned to the November 4th Pancake Breakfast.  The Board agreed to set ticket prices at $3.50 with an option to purchase a family ticket for $10.00.  All Sertoma League Volleyball players wearing there Sertoma Jerseys will eat free.  Cliff proposed that each member of the Club be issued ten tickets.  Club members would then be responsible for selling (or buying) these tickets by November 4th.    The Board also proposed to set up a bake sale and a pie raffle for this event.  Paula Padavich and Carlin Hageman will serve as Co-Chairs.  Board members also suggested that Rachel Folland and Darrel Winkowitsch serve as Publicity Co-Chairs for the breakfast.

Chris Neuhaus will contact Al Levin to determine if a: he wishes to return to the Sertoma fold, and b: wishes to continue to support the Sertoma Web Site – regardless of his response to “a.”  Chris also suggested that a listserv be established to keep those Sertomans that miss meetings up-to-date, to continue discussions and brainstorms started during meetings, and to provide a method for Sertoma officers to quickly spread news or to quickly elicit feedback.

Respectfully submitted,

Chris Neuhaus
Secretary,
