Cedar Valley Sertoma Club
Board Meeting - Minutes
Thursday, November 14, 2002
Present: Lloyd Berry, Donna Brown, David Greene, Chris Neuhaus,
Paula Padavich, Bob Robinson.
Old Business
Donna Brown called the meeting to order at 5:20 p.m.
The Board read the minutes from the previous meeting on
Thursday, October 10, 2002. Lloyd moved to accept the minutes and David provided
a 2nd. Minutes accepted.
Lloyd gave the Treasurer's Report. There was $1,846.91 in the General Account and
$3,678.86 in the Sponsorship Account. Bob moved to accept the report and David
provided a 2nd. Treasurer's Report accepted.
Lloyd announced that the audit has gone well and that everything was in order and
accurate. Lloyd noted that the audit team suggested that for 2002/2003 the
Treasurer's Report be issued on the same date every month rather than the day closest to
the Board Meeting.
The Board discussed further funding of Exceptional Persons Inc. Board members were
inclined to support Exceptional Persons Inc. but would like to know exactly how our club
donations would be spent. Carol Cooper is in contact with E.P.I. Board members
suggested that we invite a member of E.P.I to speak at an upcoming meeting.
Paula will create some Thank You cards for everyone who has rented a flag from the Cedar
Valley Sertoma Club this year. It was suggested that we purchase a Sertoma stamp to
help create more personalized Thank You cards in the future. (Late breaking news -
the secretary has unearthed both a 2"x1" Sertoma stamp and
a
1"x 0.5" Sertoma stamp).
New Business
Laura Rodgers, Alan Asher, Bill Smart and Travis Manski were all accepted unanimously by
the Board as new members of the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club. Welcome Laura, Alan, Bill
and Travis!
Bob announced that our Club was awarded the Silver Award at the most recent East-West Iowa
District Conference held in Ames on Sunday, November 10.
Bob recommended that the club promote the Sy Gau Scholarship. Chris noted that the
most recent Sy Gau Scholarship
forms are now on our website and can be directly accessed at http://www.uni.edu/neuhaus/sertoma/sygau2002.doc.
Application deadline is January 31, 2003 ... so act NOW!
The Cedar Valley Sertoma Club will invite Jessie Loveless of the
House of Hope to our Business Meeting (Tuesday, November 25). Bob
suggested that we talk to Jessie about possibly forming a Sertoma Club in the area that
will focus on the supporting House of Hope.
Bob Robinson will give our good buddies at the Department of Communicative Disorders a
buzz - to see what progress is being made towards the creation of a Collegiate Sertoma
Club designed to support the teaching of sign language.
Club members will invite Cindy Wells - a Waterloo Sertoma Club member - to join us C.V.
Sertoma folk for a meeting or two (or MORE!).
Dave Greene notes that we will have one "evening" meeting in December - most
likely December 17.
The Board agreed to consider the Thursday, November 25 Business Meeting a combined business meeting for both November and December 2002.
Paula reminds everyone to turn in your Membership Surveys - better yet bring them to
the meeting!
Big thanks once again to Donna and Gary Brown for providing the a meeting place and great
munchies!!
