Thursday, May 8, 2003

Those in attendance:    Donna Brown (presiding), Joe Alemao, Lea Andersen, Lloyd Berry*, Carol Cooper, David Greene, Carlin Hageman, Paula Padavich, Chris Neuhaus, Bill Robinson, Bob Robinson.

*Lloyd Berry delivered his reports but was unable to stay for the meeting.

Minutes: Minutes from the past two board meetings - March 13, 2003 - and - April 10, 2003 - were read and approved with David moving to accept the March minutes and Paula providing a 2nd and Carol moving to accept the April minutes and Carlin providing a 2nd.

Treasurer's Report: Lloyd Berry  provided the following Treasurer's Summary - "It should be noted the 'Dues/Meals Outstanding' also includes the assessment for 'Flag Donations' in this billing, therefore it would reflect a sizeable amount due at this time but actually is not of particular concern.  Flag Display receipts to April 30th are $1,245.  An additional $450 has since been received.  Also of note we have a total of 104 flag donors, however at this date, May 7, 2003, 48 of those persons who donated in 2002 have not renewed their donations in 2003.  This is a potential loss of $1200.  Also, there is a bill for 100 flags still outstanding that amounts to $1006.95 meaning we have a net profit at this time of $688.05"

Current Balance for the General Account as of May 1 is - $2,418.44

Current Balance for the Sponsorship Account as of May 1 is - $2,356.03

Carlin moved to accept the Treasurer's Report and Bob provided a 2nd - Treasurer's Report accepted.

OLD BUSINESS:

David Greene will call Lloyd Berry to be sure the new flags have arrived.

Paula Padavich will contact Lloyd concerning a notice received indicating that Membership Dues from the past quarter have not yet been received.

NEW BUSINESS:

Donna read a letter of resignation received by Lloyd Berry from Keith Carlson, Lifetime Sertoma Member.  All Board Members expressed their regrets but the Board extends an open invitation to Keith to attend any meeting or function at any time in the future.

Carlin noted that Laura Rodgers will soon move to Alpharetta, Georgia (North Atlanta) - another great loss for CV Sertoma Club, the incipient Collegiate Club and for the Speech & Hearing Clinic.  Carlin will ask Ken Bleile to serve as sponsor of the UNI Sertoma Collegiate Club in Laura's absence.  The Club wishes all the best to Laura and her family in their new home!

The Nominating Committee - Carlin Hageman, David Greene and Lea Anderson - presented a proposed slate of officers (soon to be announced).

The Board recommended that an ad-hoc Evening Meeting Committee be formed to establish a meeting time and place for a monthly evening meeting - in the hopes of attracting potential members who are unable to attend the current Noon meeting time on Tuesdays.

Bob Robinson announced that Jessie Koch - long time supporter of the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club (Sturgis Volunteer and guest speaker) - has been awarded a Sy Gau scholarship of $650.  Congratulations Jessie!

Bob Robinson recommended that the Club consider sponsoring Iowa children for a week long stay at the Sertoma Camp Confidence in Minnesota.  Bob noted that each child is to supply a $50 toward the entrance fee and that a sponsoring club would then pay the remaining $250 camping fee.

Bob also announced that the next regional conferences will be held in the following locations -

        2004 - Mankato MN
        2005 - Aberdeen SD
        2006 - Dubuque IA
