1. Sturgis - Lloyd announced the latest Sturgis net profit to be $2372 (see http://www.uni.edu/neuhaus/sertoma/SturgisPlanner2003.doc for details).  Chris stated that Sturgis - though profitable more often than not - is always a tremendous physical and logistical challenge to the club - and especially to those individuals most directly responsible for the food booth.  Chris suggested that the Club set a challenge of recruiting 10 new members "younger than Neuhaus" before April 1, 2004 as a pre-condition for participating in Sturgis 2004.  Carlin suggested that the Club might also consider streamlining its food booth offerings to make preparation and food booth staffing more bearable.  This discussion will be continued ...

2. General Account - Lloyd noted that the General Account continues to grow.  Carlin moved and Paula provided a 2nd to fund the hors d'oeuvres (appetizers) for the next few monthly evening club meetings.  Motion passed.

Also note club proposal for General Account funds approved at during the June 24 Business Meeting -

3. Flags - Carlin and Donna suggested stickers for each flag pole that would indicate the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club's participation in this project and include a place for flag team leaders to write a contact number in permanent marker.

Donna noted that we missed one flag on Briarwood - the Donna will send a letter from the C.V. Sertoma Club apologizing for the oversight and offer to refund $5.  Chris suggested that in high-density flag neighborhoods someone (or two) should drive/walk the route after flags are placed to be sure no flags are missing (though Chris also noted that our rate of error is less than 1%).

4. Sponsorship Account - As noted above - the Sponsorship Account is now at $5,611.36.  During July Carol  will be identifying a number of causes to which the Club might contribute.  Potentially sponsored community projects - identified by Carol - will be brought before the Board and Club in July and August for their consideration.

5. Evening Meeting - The first Thursday evening Cedar Valley Sertoma Club meeting will take place on Thursday, July 31 from 5:30-6:30 on the main floor of the Broom Factory restaurant.

6. August Board Meeting - in July! - As many of the Executive Board members will be away in August - The Executive Board of the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club will meet at Noon on Tuesday, July 29 on the 2nd floor of the Broom Factory restaurant (normal club location).

7. Recruitment and Promotion - The Board suggested that new members be encouraged to serve on the Board as Directors.  Board members will contact Travis Manske and all-but-registered new member Duane Halbur (UNI - Counseling) to serve as both Directors and members of the Membership Committee under 1st Vice President Rick Koch.

8. Notes -

Chris will contact Cliff Highnam about having UNI Communicative Disorders student Courtney  Johnson come and speak to the club in early August about his research.  Courtney has joined the club on a number of fundraising events over the past two years.  Many thanks Courtney!

Congratulations to David Greene who is now officially a "Great Granddad" (as well as a Great Sertoman).

Many thanks to Donna for hosting this meeting on her screened back porch on such wonderful evening - and for once again supplying drinks and munchies.
