5. Donna Brown noted that the Valentine Bun fund raising committee met on Tuesday, December 18.  Here follows notes from committee chair Rachel Folland:

Action plan proposed by the Valentine Bun Committee:

1. We will ask the membership for ideas of businesses to cover during this fundraiser (it was noted that nearly all the businesses proposed were assigned during the past Cedar Valley Sertoma Club meeting on Tuesday, January 8).

2. We will have samples ready to distribute on January 28.  The samples will include the box, a cooked bun and a digital picture of the ensemble.  Order sheets will accompany each sample which is distributed.

3. We will pick up samples and forms on February 11.

4. We will deliver the buns on February 14.

Carol Cooper is going to check on using student deliverers.

Rachel will make sure a news release is sent to both the Courier (for publication on February 4th) and the Hometowner (for publication on February 6th).

Carlin Hageman was going to see if order forms could be distributed to the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.

Carlin and Cliff will make sure there is enough product on hand from Martin Brothers (utensils, napkins, cards, styrofoam boxes, buns, etc.).

6. Donna reminded the Board that the "National Heritage Essay Contest" will run until the end of the month.

7. Lloyd Berry announced that his nominee, Dr. Paul Strayer, was chosen to be this year's winner of the "Service to Mankind" award.  The club will ask Dr. Strayer to give a brief speech during the Awards banquet on Sunday, February 24, 2002 (at the Broom Factory).  Chris will take responsibility for the creation of the awards (plaques) for both the "Service to Mankind" and the "Sertoman of the Year" honors.

8.  Bill Robinson and Joe Alemao will create "special" awards for club members who have either excelled or inadvertently drawn attention to themselves.   Bill and Joe would welcome creative nominations and suggestions from the membership.

9. Donna announced that the Club name change is now official.  Donna distributed a letter from International Director (Great Plains) Sheila Reding approving this name change.   We are now officially the "Cedar Valley Sertoma Club."

10. Chris will take responsibility for a "The Cedar Valley Sertoma Club Meets Here" plaque/sign for the Broom Factory as well as the procurement of a District Scholarship Form for Bob Robinson.

11. In closing Donna suggested that the Board meeting in February might well be rescheduled so as not to conflict with February 14th.
