Donna Brown called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m.
The Board read the minutes from the previous meeting on
Thursday, January 9, 2003. Carlin moved to accept the minutes and Paula provided
a 2nd. Minutes accepted.
At Donna's suggestion the Board moved to have Lloyd order 100 more American flags for the
club fundraising project.
The Board agreed that for year 2003 the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club will put up and take
down American flags on on six different days:
Memorial Day
Flag Day
Independence Day (4th of July)
Labor Day
September 11
Veteran's Day
... however the Board also agreed that Cedar Valley Sertoma Club involvement with the
American flag project on September 11 will be decided on a yearly basis.
Paula announced that she is still trying to contact the Cedar Falls fire department
concerning the funding, placement, and long-term tracking of smoke detectors in houses for
individuals with hearing disabilities --- but she has yet to receive any response.
New Business
Carlin reminded the Board to forward - with the appropriate paperwork - the winners of the
Sertoman of the Year Award and the Service to Mankind Award to the Great Plains Regional
office - in the hopes that these individuals might receive further accolades and honors.
Carol announced that she was beginning to receive essays for the upcoming banquet and
essay contest.
Donna asked the Board if the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club would be willing to sell tickets
for the upcoming United States Ballroom Dance Association charity - especially as the
U.S.B.D.A will once again donate some of the proceeds to the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club.
Paula moved to participate in promoting this event and Carol provided a 2nd ...
motion passed.
Paula announced that an elderly man on a fixed income has requested Club assistance with a
hearing aid. Carlin checked with his son (via his handy cell phone) and later
announced to the board that if a cast of the gentleman's ear were to be made a used
hearing aid could probably be procured at very low cost to the club and/or gentleman
involved.
The Board adjourned to more baking, frosting, packing, labeling, and the making of
delivery plans ....
... OK and just a wee bit of tasting too!
