Cedar Valley Sertoma Club
Online Board Meeting - e-mail collection
Thursday, December 10-11, 2003
Due to illness etc. - the following collected e-mails have been gathered as
online business conducted by the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club Executive Board in
lieu of the scheduled meeting on December 11.
e-mails are in reverse chronological order
Boardfolk,
I don't think a SSWA member came to our meeting unless I fell asleep and missed
it. But I support the motion and the notion that a representative come to the
meeting. That may have been right after I suggested that Henry Ford signed Ed's
drivers license (in keeping with the Wright brothers having signed J.
Livingston's pilots license).
I have talked with Paul Neilson regarding Sturgis Falls. Here's the scoop. We
are definitely first in line for taking over a spot in Overman Park and he
believes that we will be able to do it but he cannot guarantee it until April
when all of the continuing vendors say yea or neigh. He is reasonably confident
that we will be able to move. I think our decision will be whether we want to do
it if we are not at Overman but we have time to decide that. We will even have
data on how much money our flag project will be bringing in next spring.
Chris, have you thought about the "joke" lottery?
Carlin
Re: More Details on SSWA Reimbursement $600 sounds good.
Board:
I can sure join Carlin in this lunch endeavor. Was there an agreement on how
much to give to the SSWA? There was some confusion, probably on
my part about this.
By the way, how much do I own in fines for disappearing for 3 weeks?
Duane
I'm in favor of the reimbursement.
Angie
I second to reimburse the SSWA $600.00 for the hunger banquet.
Jessica
Boardfolk:
Duane's e-mail on helping SSWA pay for their Hunger Banquet ... my notes in "[
]"
.. They can be reimbursed. I was told a member may be able to come by tomorrow's
[that was this past Tuesday] lunch to share the idea and cost
(probably around 600). Anyway, I am not real sure on policy as how to make it
happen [I think we vote on it ... I move we reimburse the SSWA
to the tune of $600 if a representative from SSWA comes to one of our meetings
... maybe this already happened? :-)]. Any guidance would be
helpful.
As far as Sturgis...I know you guys are worried. I will get as many as you need
as long as we can sell Jr. League Cookbooks. [sounds
reasonable ... BTW - does the Jr. League Cookbook have any good recipes for food
booth food?].
Thanks,
Duane
[... and thank you Duane!]

Angie says all systems go ... and chicken soup, zinc tablets, two aspirins, and
plenty of sleep for everyone!
Cheers,

Sure, I'm happy to head up the Buns Committee. Actually, I just assumed I
still was. :) We delivering Friday the 13th, right? Egads, Friday the
13th...interesting!! Anyway, I think I read that in an email and since the
majority of our deliveries are to work places, it makes sense. Sounds
like everyone's under the weather. You get healthy!! Take care,
Angie
Sertoma. I think that I am ready to sign them up and follow the Sertoma
procedure. More tomorrow. Also, I have two, make that two, new
potential members who have visited the club and are anxious (more or less) to
join up. One is a recruit for by A. and the other one I found. Anyway, I
need a volunteer for a lunch or breakfast (probably lunch) to go explain Sertoma
and sign them up. Sometime in December would be good I think.
Carlin
Boardfolk:
1st Jessica - Hope you're on the mend! and 2nd - I second - your motion to
conduct matters via e-mail this month (and am spending one more day
at home - back at work tomorrow I hope). All in favor keep sending e-mails.
Carlin - thanks for taking the on the Collegiate Sertoma challenge ... Duane -
if you have time - could you join Carlin in this endeavor ... I
think by now both of you owe each-other lunch ... two or three times over maybe?
... but I'll let you work out the details :-) ... Also ...
the SSWA (Student Social Work Association) is owed some money ... Lloyd have
written a check supporting their Hunger Banquet expenses? ... if
not ... Duane could you work with Lloyd to see that SSWA receives our support.
I'm going to check in with Angie next week to be sure she's still comfortable
with heading up the Valentine's fund raiser - Valentine's
Rolls Committee includes: Angie (chair), Duane, Jessica, and I'm putting myself
on this committee ... and anyone else who would like to join the immediate
committee is welcome.
BTW - I also move that we could let the various member groups of the UNI
Collegiate Sertoma Club sell tickets and keep profits - provided -
they help make the rolls and deliver all that they sell. 2nd?
Also ... Carlin ... have you had a chance to talk with Paul Nielsen - Sturgis
Falls Coordinator - concerning our desire to move to Overman
Park?
Respond via e-mail please ...
Cheers,

Hi Everyone!
I would like to motion not to have a board meeting this month. I
also have the flu with a side of bronchitis. (Less germs to share
having the meeting via email.) Thank you Judy for all of your planning
for the Awards Banquet. Chris hope you feel better.
Jessica

Chris,
I have reserved the Broom Factory for February 22, 2004, gathering at 5:30 to
eat at 6, for the banquet. I have the banquet menu, will select some items
and figure the prices.
I have only 1 suggestion so far for Service to Mankind Award (from Carol
Cooper). Since I have missed the December news deadline, I
am really just giving you all the above information as a preliminary heads-up.
You can certainly announce the day/time for the Banquet at weekly lunch, and be
certain whoever is in charge of the essay contest knows the date. By the way,
the date is the 4th Sunday in February, which is when we've had the last few
banquets. In 2004, there's a 5th Sunday (the 29th) but I decided not to confuse
life by meeting then!!
Let me know if you'd like info about meal choices ASAP. My hunch is this is way
too early for such clutter.
Judy
BTW - Troy's new e-mail is tdelagardelle@Mchsi.com ... I'll announce this
to the club if I ever get healthy enough to return to work ;-)
Cheers,
Chris "medicine man" Neuhaus
Sertomafolk:
Almost forgot this one ... again at our past "seemed like a business" meeting
Nov. 25 we agreed to consider moving our Sturgis operation to
the south bank of the Cedar River (Overman Park) and to greatly simplify our
menu.
This would still provide us with lots of PR (probably more PR) and some profit
... with less (and possibly easier) hours worked.
Carlin will contact Paul Nielsen (Sturgis Falls Coordinator) about this
possibility.
Cheers,
Chris "one tends to move 'south' with age :-) " Neuhaus
Sertomans:
During the past November 25th meeting ... those present voted to continue
evening meetings through at least February ...
... so there will be no meeting Tuesday, January 27th ... but there WILL be an
evening meeting on Thursday, January 29th.
... and there will be no meeting Tuesday, February 24th ... but there WILL be an
evening meeting on Thursday, February 26th.
Cheers,
Chris
Sertomafolk:
At our last meeting (November 25th) those present voted to have the Annual
Valentine's Cinnamon Roll delivery held on Friday, February 13th
(rather than Saturday, February 14th) as delivery of the rolls would be nearly
impossible on a Saturday.
