Business Meeting – Minutes
Tuesday, October 15, 2002

Present:   Paula Padavich (presiding), Lloyd Berry, Carol Cooper, Cliff Highnam,
Tom Keel, Rick Koch, Chris Neuhaus, Bob Robinson, Ed Smith and Jessica Williams.

1. Review of Executive Board Minutes - October 10 - Bob moved, Lloyd provided a 2nd and the club approved the minutes with a modification to note the $160 donated by Dan Deery for our club golf outing.

2. Lloyd announced that pancake ticket sales total $336 to date and that the expense for renting the American Legion Hall will be $100.

3.  Carol will be looking for high profile causes to which the club might contribute funds.

4. Cliff noted that we could get a public service announcement for a donation to the UNI Telephone Hearing Test - 273-5803.

5. Lloyd gave the budget report and noted the new reporting format. As of October 15 there was $2,183.94 in the General Account and $3,543.36 in the Sponsorship Account.

6. The Club discussed the National Heritage Awards and the membership suggested that we broaden the contest to include art as well as writing entries - with winners selected from both writing and art categories.  The Club also discussed the possibility of awards from both Cedar Falls and Waterloo.

7. Carlin announced that the Waterloo Courier and the Home Towner will charge $15 per inch for advertising.  Carlin will inquire further at the Courier to see if more affordable/free opportunities to announce the pancake breakfast might be available.   Carlin noted that local radio stations will run announcements of our event for free.  Carlin handed out handcrafted Pancake announcements.

8. Chris will put links to a Pancake Flier and also to the UNI Speakers Bureau and the Wartburg Speakers Bureau pages on the club home page in the near future.

9. Paula announced that Carol has agreed to serve as 3rd Vice President for the club --- Thanks Carol!

10. Carlin announced that Joe Alemao is recovering well - get well soon Joe - hope to see you back at the Broom Factory - tout de suite!
