However, as our treasurer pointed out - with roughly $2800 in net flag income we now have nearly $4000 in our Sponsorship Account.

Lloyd will bill members for flags on the next billing statement.

Bill Robinson moved to accept the Treasurer's Report, David Greene provided a 2nd.  Treasurer's Report approved.

Solar Car Report

David Greene and Bill Robinson represented the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club at the UNI Jr. Solar Sprint contest held at NU High this past Saturday, May 15.  David and Bill helped judge and present awards for "The Most Patriotic Entry" (one each for the best 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade entries) and for the Best Patriotic Performer (fastest patriotic entry).  While Dave was busy calculating velocities and weight ratios - Bill was  waving the checkered flag!  The club was credited with sponsoring these awards on the Jr. Solar Sprint website - http://www.uni.edu/ceee/juniorsprint/. (More details - and pictures! - will be forthcoming on our club website).

Habitat for Humanity

The club discussed funding a new home via Habitat for Humanity.  Donna noted that one member of the club had serious concerns about the religious nature of Habitat for Humanity.  Other members pointed out that while Habitat for Humanity is a nondenominational Christian housing organization - see http://www.habitat.org/how/tour/1.html?r=quote - all people are welcome to participate - and that families are eligible based on their need, their willingness to participate in the project, and their ability to repay the no-interest mortgage - regardless of race, religion or ethnic group.  After yet more discussion Bob Robinson made the following motion:

The Cedar Valley Sertoma Club will contribute $5000 annually to the Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity House Program.

Lloyd provided a second.  Motion passed.

Notes - $5000 will insure that Sertoma Club is fully recognized as a contributing member of the project - including recognition on any signs displaying sponsors of the house sponsored.

Lloyd will invite a representative fro the Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity House Program to speak in either June or July.

Cedar Valley Soccer Association

Lloyd noted that he was having difficulty finding CVSA persons and associated financial institutions able to handle our donation.

However - in an e-mail later that day Lloyd states:

"I have been in contact with Doug Laudick regarding our donation. He just wanted clarification on whether we wanted to donate this
anonymously or with name on the back of shirts. I indicated we indeed wanted our name on the shirt, 'Cedar Valley Sertoma'. He indicated $300
would sponsor 2 teams, $125 per team and the balance of $50 would be placed in the general operating fund. We will receive a plaque and
pictures of the teams, probably sometime in October. --- Lloyd"

Flag News

Orchard street has expanded to include flag ranging from the 400 block to the 1800 block!

Donna and Bob Robinson have been selling LOTS of flags.

A huge thanks to everyone placing flag holes, making new flags, selling new flags, AND renewing old flags!

We will need LOTS of help on Monday, May 31 - and remember, as Donna noted in her recent e-mail - THIS is our BIG fundraiser now!

With great thanks to all you hard working SERTOMANS,

Chris "scribe du jour" Neuhaus
