Cedar Valley Sertoma Club
Business Meeting – Minutes
Tuesday, June 24, 2003

Present:
Paula Padavich (presiding), Joe Alemao, Lloyd Berry, David Greene,
Cliff Highnam, Chris Neuhaus, Bob Robinson, Bill Smart, Ed Smith and Jessica Williams..

1. Minutes of the May 13 Business Meeting were reviewed.  Lloyd moved to accept the minutes, Bob provided a 2nd - minutes accepted.

2. Lloyd presented the Treasurer's Report - as of May 31, 2003:

Lloyd noted that the profit on flags this year is about $2000 to date and that we still have 50 flags purchased, constructed and at our disposal.

Bob moved to accept the Treasurer's Report - Chris provided a 2nd - Treasurer's Report accepted.

3. Chris talked briefly about the cost of appetizer trays for the upcoming 5:30 p.m. evening meeting on Thursday, July 31 at the Broom Factory.

Chris will look into the possibility of combining one or more of the above trays for what is more likely to be a "crowd" of 20-25 Sertomans --- and report back.

4. Lloyd noted that the General Account has grown to $2000 and that the club might look at creative uses for this fund.  Bob Robinson and Lloyd Berry jointly proposed that new members have their initiation fee ($20) reimbursed if they attend three consecutive meetings after joining.  Chris provided a 2nd.  Proposal unanimously approved.  Lloyd and David also proposed that as long as the General Account fund was robust - the winner of the second drawing (after the "Whatsit") be awarded a free lunch.  Chris provided a 2nd.  This proposal was also approved.

5. Paula led a discussion on the flag fundraiser.  She encouraged the club to consider creating one more "target" neighborhood similar to Abraham (Carlin's neighborhood), Briarwood (Donna's neighborhood), and Clark (Bob's neighborhood).  Chris suggested that perhaps the Lloyd Berry-Lea Anderson-Chris Neuhaus neighborhood (neighborhoods in the vicinity of Round Street, University and Waterloo) might be targeted if either Lloyd or Lea had room to store more flags.  Chris noted that many of the flags in his neighborhood would need to be placed farther into the yards as the utilities tend to run parallel and adjacent to the street.  Bill suggested that we create flag hole caps to highlight hard-to-find flag holes.  Bill, David and Lloyd suggested a 3 inch section of broom handle attached to a durable plastic disk (Lloyd currently employs this technique - using white yogurt lids - on all the flag holes in his neighborhood).

6.  Chris and Bob led a discussion on the upcoming Sturgis Falls food booth fundraiser.  See ongoing details and booth schedule at http://www.uni.edu/neuhaus/sertoma/sturgissignup2003.html.
