Business Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, January 21, 2003
Present: Paula Padavich (presiding), Alan Asher, Lloyd Berry, Donna Brown,
Angie Burda, Carol Cooper, Carlin Hageman, Cliff Highnam, Chris Neuhaus, Bill Robinson,
Bob Robinson, Laura Rodgers, Bill Smart, Ed Smith and Jessica Williams
1. Angie Burda passed out Valentines Day Fliers and order forms. Fliers are also
available online at http://www.uni.edu/neuhaus/sertoma/cinnrolls2003.doc
and Cinnamon Bun order forms are available online at http://www.uni.edu/neuhaus/sertoma/SertomaBunOrderFrom2003.doc.
Angie reminded everyone that the Club would be making and packaging Cinnamon Buns
at the American Legion Hall on Thursday, February 13 - (for more details contact Angie at burda@uni.edu or w 273-3128). Paula reminded
everyone that the Board Meeting will also take place on Thursday, February 13 (go
multi-tasking!). Cliff mentioned that the club should pre-pay for the American
Legion Hall so as to reserve the 13th for the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club.
2. The minutes from the November 26, 2002 Business Meeting were read. Chris pointed
out the announcement concerning the upcoming Cedar Valley Sertoma Club Awards Banquet.
The Banquet will be held on Sunday, February 23 at 5:30 in the Cedar Falls Brown
Bottle Restaurant. All attendees will order off the menu and pay at that time.
Judith Harrington announced (via e-mail) that there is now a winner for the Service
to Mankind Award.
3. Carol noted that for this year the Essay Contest will be held for 8th and 9th students
in the Cedar Falls School District. Three prizes will be awarded for the top essays from
the 8th grade entries and three prizes will be awarded for the top entries from the 9th
grade as well. Angie Burda, Donna Brown and Alan Asher volunteered to help read the
essays submitted for the contest.
4. Chris passed out ballots for the Cedar Valley Sertoman of the Year Award. Those
not present were contacted via e-mail and can cast an e-mail ballot by Friday, January 24.
Chris also sent regards from David Greene who is suffering through 70 degree
weather along the ocean in Florida.
5. Lloyd gave the Treasurer's Report and noted that the Early Bird Donations to the
Sertoma Foundation were a bit over projections (had budgeted for $100 - was $175). Funds
as of January 15: General Account - $2,046.64 and Sponsorship
Account - $1,860.37.
6. New Member Initiation: Carlin and Paula presented Laura Rodgers, Bill
Smart and Alan Asher with their Sertoma Pins. A great big hurrah and
welcome for
Alan, Bill, Laura and Travis Manske our new Sertomans!
