Review of Valentine's Fundraiser -

The fundraiser was very successful in terms of sales - we sold 281 rolls + donations (advertising really worked well).  If and when all money is collected that should total about $1400 ... with gross profits likely to come in around $900 after expenses that include the buns themselves (from Granny Annie's), advertising, packaging and gift wrapping materials.

Many thanks to Sertomans Troy Delagardelle, Todd Bohnenkamp, Paula Padavich, Carol Cooper, Chris Neuhaus and Carlin Hageman for helping to label, package, and decorate the Valentine's rolls/packages.  A special meritorious commendation goes to Bob and Marie Robinson who had to leave early in the game to have Bob's new arterial plumbing checked at Sartori Hospital.  Also thank you to Lloyd who helped us set-up (before we figured out what we were doing) and pack-up (after we were too tired to know what we were doing).  Also special thanks to Brad Highnam for spending part of his weekend helping to make this project happen.

The actual delivery of these rolls was a near traumatic event as for most of the day we had only three/four Sertomans delivering these rolls.  A great big thank you to Lloyd Berry, Carlin Hageman, Chris Neuhaus and Todd Bohnenkamp for doing the all-day deliveries, Carol and Jessica for doing the long-haul-odd-hour deliveries, and to Cliff Highnam for doing the emergency UNI deliveries.

A few deliveries were missed - the result of some confusion on few addresses and just not enough hours in the day.

Lloyd moved and Carlin seconded a motion to provide those people who were missed on Valentine's day with larger "make-up" cinnamon rolls.  This motion passed unanimously.

A few ideas for making the Valentine's Fundraiser go off more smoothly next year -

We need to place all orders in a database that can then print labels - to/from/messages?

Do NOT place the label on the box to be delivered until you are in front of the house/business to which the Valentine is addressed.

No ribbons next year! ... Just stickers ... Sertoma stickers (either buy these from KC or make them ourselves), Granny Annie's stickers, and Valentine stickers

We need to create a network of delivery areas (block groups, voting precincts, zip codes) and assign each order an area code for more efficient delivery.  Note - Shirley Berry suggested that we make/buy a large Cedar Falls/Waterloo Map and place pins in the map as orders come in ... then create delivery areas based on the concentration of sales.

Note - Internet utilities such as MapQuest would have helped in this process ... especially the hard to find addresses.

We need to have the phone number of the recipients ... as well as the phone numbers of the gift-givers.

If we get even more orders next year we may need to have more than one Granny Annie's bakery helping us at a time ... though Bob Stoner of Granny Annie's says he thinks he can do more if he has more help (which he intends to get for Valentine's Day 2006).  It was great working with Bob and the Granny Annie's crew.  They gave us a great price and a great product!

We need more members! (Thus more drivers and packagers).

Letter to Bob & Co. at Granny Annie's from Chris Neuhaus (Valentine's Fundraiser Chair)

Bob and the Granny Annie’s Crew:

A heartfelt Thank-You from all of us here at the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club.

Our Valentine’s fundraiser was a successful one – we sold 281 boxes (2 rolls per box) and we raised just under $1000.

Your rolls were wonderful - we tested the extras to be sure :-) - and certainly appreciated by everyone receiving them for Valentine’s.

I know baking these rolls was a huge undertaking (we were almost overwhelmed by the task last year – and we only sold about 180 last year).

Also we appreciate the discount you gave our club – which allowed us to raise yet more money for Cedar Valley service programs and charities.

A few notes about our club:

Our club supports a number of charities and service programs throughout the Cedar Valley. Services we support include:
