Cedar Valley Sertoma Club
Business Meeting – Minutes
Tuesday, August 19, 2003


Present:   Paula Padavich (presiding), Joe Alemao, Lloyd Berry, Carol Cooper, Troy Delagardelle,
Carlin Hageman, Duane Halbur, Cliff Highnam, Chris Neuhaus, Bob Robinson, Ed Smith.


1. The Minutes from the previous July 22 Business Meeting were read. Lloyd moved to accept the minutes with a 2nd from Carlin. Minutes approved.

2. Treasurer's Report. The General Account was at $2,151.11 as of July 31. The Sponsorship Account was at $6,362.52 was at $6,362.52. Carlin moved to accept this report with a 2nd from from Chris. Treasurer's Report approved.

3. Duane Halbur and Troy Delagardelle have signed on the dotted line - becoming our newest Cedar Valley Sertomans (pending the inevitable vote of approval from the Executive Board). Welcome Troy and Duane!!!

4. Carol raised the question about problems with participation in the club's National Heritage Essay Contest. Duane suggested that the club might have more success if they worked with the school counselors rather than teachers. Area school counselors are currently involved in a "Character Education Program" and this might dovetail nicely with club sponsored essay contest. Chris will gather materials concerning this contest and forward copies to Duane - who in turn will test the waters with the school counselors concerning contest implementation. (Note - at the time of writing Chris has concluded that perhaps Carol Cooper and Linda Janssen might have most/all of the Club contest materials and will contact Carol and Linda to test his hunch).

5. Ed mentioned that Linda continues to make a strong recovery. Get well soon Linda!

6. Chris will soon be making calls - asking club members to serve on various committees. The possibilities are nearly endless - the service rendered satisfying and most appreciated - and all you need to do is say "yes I will."
