Business Meeting – Minutes
Tuesday, August 20, 2002

Present:   Paula Padavich (presiding), Joe Alemao, Lea Andersen,
Lloyd Berry, Carol Cooper, Dave Greene Carlin Hageman,
Cliff Highnam, Linda Janssen, Tom Keel, Bob McGill,
Chris Neuhaus, Bill Robinson, Bob Robinson, Ed Smith.

1. Minutes from the Board Meeting (Thursday, August 8, 2002) were read and approved.

Note - the board approved the following increase in the cost of meals - beginning September 2003 the cost of a meal will be $7.00 and there will be no dessert day ... :-(

2. Lloyd Berry presented the Treasurer's Report, which was approved. The General Account is currently at $1,542.51 and the Sponsorship Account stands at $3,964.60.

3. It was announced that Joe Smaldino has moved to 906 South Ridge in Cedar Falls. The Smaldino home phone number is 266-7012. These changes will be forwarded to Sertoma International and changed on the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club directory.

4. Lloyd announced that we will need more flag holders for our flag project. Carlin Hageman noted that he will purchase more PVC pipe to create these holders.

5. Lea Anderson told the club that Cedar Valley Sertoma was too late this year to sponsor a soccer team of the Cedar Valley Soccer Association. For $125 our club can sponsor a team that will sport the name "Sertoma" and for $250 both the name and the Sertoma Logo. Bob Robinson moved that we sponsor a soccer team next year at the $250 level - Cliff Highnam seconded this proposal - the proposed funding was approved on vote. The club must get the $250 to the Cedar Valley Soccer Association by June 2003. It was also suggested that we invite a speaker from the Soccer Association to an upcoming meeting.

6. Cliff described the Dial-a-Hearing program offered by the UNI Speech & Hearing Clinic. Community members may check their hearing directly by dialing 273-5803 (number posted on our club directory). This service costs UNI $1500 per year. Cliff asked if in the future the Cedar Valley Sertoma Club would be interested in helping to fund this service - as public service announcements that are routinely made concerning this service would mention the Sertoma Club in connection with this testing. Bill Robinson moved that a minimum of $500 should be donated by the club for this testing during the upcoming year - Carlin provided a 2nd - this motion was then passed.

7. The following Cedar Valley Sertomans have agreed to serve as auditors for the club this fall:
8. Paula reminded the club that Chef Bob Robinson will be cooking fish for the Bylaw warriors on Friday, Sept 12. at the Browns. Bill Robinson and Dave Greene will present their latest solutions on the Bylaws Conundrum.

9. Paula reminded those present about their Flag Teams for Labor Day.
Contact team leaders Lloyd Berry 277-4876 or Carlin Hageman 277-5668 for details.
