Cedar Falls Sertoma Club
Executive Board Meeting
Minutes
8/31/00
(Meeting held at the home of
Lea Anderson)
Present: Cliff Highnam President (presiding), Lea Anderson Treasurer, Donna Brown Vice President, Carlin Hageman Past President, Chris Neuhaus Secretary, Paula Padavich Member at Large.
The Executive Board focused on the 1999-2000 year end budget report and the proposed budget for 2000-2001.
Cliff Highnam noted that in 2000-2001 all incoming money will be placed in one of the
following two Cedar Falls Sertoma Club accounts the Sponsorship Account or the
General Fund Account. The Sponsorship
Account will report money received from sponsorships.
All money within the Sponsorship Account must be spent by the end of the
fiscal year. All other money will be reported
in the General Fund Account and includes money the Club raises for operating expenses. This year the Cedar Falls Sertoma club will be
donating $1000 to the Sy Gau Sertoma Foundation.
Donna Brown announced that for 2000-2001 the Cedar Falls Sertoma Club
would enjoy storage of Club materials at the Brown domicile free of charge.
The Board moved to restructure the Pancake Breakfast so that proceeds
will be divided equally between the Senior Activity Center and the Cedar Falls Sertoma
Club. This change will be made with the
understanding that each ticket will state explicitly the S.A.C. project to be funded by
proceeds from the Breakfast and with the hope that by clearly stating the S.A.C. to be
funded more tickets will be sold.
The Board moved to donate $300 to the Cedar Falls Recreation Girls
Volleyball League with the understanding that
the Cedar Falls Sertoma Club will receive significant recognition (e.g. Sertoma emblazoned
on uniforms, Sertoma banner, media coverage all of the above).
The Board considered the possible benefits and drawbacks to
publishing and distributing a Cedar Falls Sertoma Club newsletter via both e-mail and U.S.
Mail in addition to the information currently posted on the Cedar Falls Sertoma Club web
site.
Carlin Hageman discussed the possibility of raising money via the
rent-a-flag method. For $25/year Cedar Falls
Sertoma members would place a permanent flag holder in the front lawns of participants.
Then on designated holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Veterans
Day) members of Sertoma would deliver, hoist, take down, and store United States flags. Carlin noted that a similar program in Texas
proved a huge success.
The Board expressed its gratitude to Lea Anderson for hosting this meeting (on the banks of the beautiful Cedar River) and for supplying lots of very yummy popcorn.
