Kading led up to the third period with an escape and a takedown in the second. Fullhart escaped with 14 seconds left in the second make it 3-1.

The Hawkeye started down in the third and Kading attempted to ride him out, but was warned for stalling 19 seconds into the period. Fullhart escaped with 1:18 left in the match. With 10 seconds remaining , Kading was penalized one point for stalling, tying the score at 3 and sending the match into overtime.

No points were scored in the first overtime. Fullhart won the toss and escaped for the win.
