Number one seeded Joe Williams of Iowa opened up early in his 5-3 decision over third ranked Tony Robie of Edinboro, Williams scored two first period takedowns to set the pace of the match and never gave up the lead.

Robie had two escapes in hte first period, adn added one more after choosing down in the second. Williams chose down in the thrid and escaped in 15 seconds into the period. Robie was unable to find a weakness against Williams on his feet and failed to score a takedown.
