The UNI Dome was alive as two Iowa in-state rivalries went at it on the mat. Iowa's Mike Mena and Iowa State's Dwight Hinson met for the third time this season with a split in the previous two matches. Mena drew first blood with a takedown in the first period and Hinson answered with an escape. Mena escaped in period two and was awarded a point for Hinson fleeing the mat. Hinson answered in the third with an escape and was awarded a point due to Mena fleeing the mat. Hinson ran out of time and was unable to score during the rest of the match. Mena won 4-3.
