In perhaps the greatest upset of the tournament so far, unseeded John Van Doren of Lehigh won a 10-9 decision over number one seed Mark Smith of Oklahoma State. Van Doren scored a a takedown with 20 seconds left in the third period to gain a 10-8 lead. Smith escaped with 10 seconds left, but Van Doren was able to hold on for the upset.
