In a close match between the #1 seed from the tradition of Oklahoma State, Mark Smith, brother of head coach John Smith, decisioned Rick Tomaro of Miami. Smith scored early with a takedown which Tomaro countered with an escape to make it 2-1 at the end of 1. Smith upped his lead by one with an escape in the second. Tomaro began a comeback scoring first on 2 escapes and then a takedown to tie it with :59 remaining. However, Smith also scored a takedown and finally an escape to seal the win at 6-5.
