Penn State's 5th seed Glenn Pritzlaff took on Rodney VanNess of Rutgers in the 167 lb match. Pritzlaff scored a takedown early in the 1st and VanNess countered it right away with an escape. Penn would score 2 back points and Rutgers an escape point to make the score 4-2 at the end of the first. With 1:14 left in the 2nd Rutgers scored 2 backpoints to tie the match at 4 up at the end of 2 periods. In the 3rd Rutgers staged a comeback with a key takedown to upset Pritzlaff by a score of 8-4.
