Ohio's Dwight Gardner lived up to his sixth ranked seed by lighting up the scoreboard first with a 2-point takedown. The score entering the second period was 2-0. Gardner looked to be in control entering the final period with a comfortable 5-1 lead. Gardner moves on to Round 2 with a 7-2 victory over Kurt Hudson of Norwestern.
