Number one seed Kerry McCoy of Penn St. and Stephen Neal of Cal St-Bakersfield matched-up in the heavyweight championship match.
The first period saw little action; no scoring and Neal being warned for stalling. The second period began with Neal choosing down. Midway through, Neal hit a Gramby roll and successfully reversed McCoy for the first two points of the match. McCoy answered with an escape and the match was 2-1.
In the third, McCoy began underneath Neal who couldn't hold him long as he
quickly escaped to tie the match. McCoy took the lead late in the third after
Neal was penalized for stalling. In the final moments, McCoy was able to hold
Neal at bay and the heavyweight match ended 3-2 in favor of McCoy.
