After a scoreless first period Eric Guerro of Oklahoma State put the first score on the board with an escape late in the second period.

Mena escaped early in the third period, but gave up a stalling point which made the score 2-1. Mena elected to send the math into overtime due to one point for riding time.

Neither wrestler scored in the first overtime. Mena chose top in double overtime and Guerro escaped 5 seconds into double OT to win the match.
