At 126 pounds, Jake Whisenhunt was part of OSU's 1-2-3 punch at
the lower weights. The returning NCAA qualifier took third at
this year's Pac-10s. He won both his matches on the final
weekend of the regular season, beating Oregon's David Perkins 7-3
and topping Boise State's Dave Molinari 7-2. Whisenhunt has won
7 of his last 10 matches. Whisenhunt earned the 126-pound
championship at the ASICS Oregon Wrestling Classic Dec. 28-29 at
OSU, going 4-0 in the meet. He also placed third in the Sheridan
Tournament on Dec. 7, going 3-1. Whisenhunt won his weight class at the non-scoring Southern Oregon
Open in November. At Clackamas Community College, he was a
two-time runner-up at national championships. A four-year
letterwinner at Stayton High, he also lettered in football.
His twin brother Josh,also an OSU wrestler, placed sixth at 142
pounds.
