|AARON SIMPSON: Simpson, who placed eighth at nationals a year ago, is ASU's highest-ranked qualifier. The junior from Wellton, Ariz., is currently rated third nationally behind Oklahoma State's Mark Smith and Iowa State's Barry Weldon. Simpson scored his first Pac-10 title in dramatic fashion, beating CSUB's Dan Corpstein in sudden death. Simpson apparently gained a 6-3 advantage with a takedown in the third period, but the takedown was disallowed. The referee then awarded a point penalty to Corpstein, knotting the score at 4-4. But Simpson scored another takedown just 14 seconds into overtime for a 6-4 win. It was his third tournament title of the season: Simpson also took first at the Midlands and the California Open. The Pac-10 All-Academic selection is 6-4 against ranked opponents heading into the NCAAs.
