Neidlinger claimed fourth at the 1997 Big Ten Championships after advancing to the third place match for the second straight year. He went 3-2 for the tournament falling 9-1 to Iowa's Lee Fullhart in the third place match. Neidlinger will be making his second NCAA tournament appearance having gone 1-2 at the 1996 NCAA's after placing third in the Big Ten tournament.
