FISH! is an approach to the workplace that looks at how one's attitude can make the workplace a more rewarding place. PR WATCHDOG JOHN STAUBER TO SPEAKInvestigative writer, activist and public interest organization consultant John Stauber will speak at UNI at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, in the Lang Hall Auditorium. His lecture, "Toxic Sludge Is Good for You: How Propagandists Manage Democracy," is part of the Meryl Norton Hearst Lecture Series. Stauber will discuss a wide range of topics that illustrate the influence of unethical public relations practices, including how toxic sludge becomes "organic compost" for gardens, how BP has tried to position itself as an environmental leader, and how news "echo chambers" reinforce political and social biases favorable to sponsors and advertisers. 'STILL ALICE' DISCUSSThe AAUW Cedar Valley Discover Diversity Discuss will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, at the UNI Museum to discuss "Still Alice" by Lisa Genova. Alice is a Harvard professor beset by Alzheimer's disease. Guest speaker is Bev McCadam, an Alzheimer's support volunteer. All are welcome, having read the book or not. POTENTIAL EFFECTS OF BISON WALLOWING BEHAVIOR ON A RESORTED PRAIRIEJohanna Foster, Ph.D., and Kimran Buckholz, Ph.D., from Wartburg College will discuss their research project involving bison and plant communities at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the UNI Tallgrass Prairie Center, located on West 27th Street, one-quarter mile west of the McLeod Center. Part of the project involves looking at bison feces and using DNA extraction to determine the gender of the animal to hopefully better understand bison sexual segregation. GUEST ARTIST RECITAL: CELLO AND PIANOVisiting artists Mark Votapek, cello, and Ralph Votapek, piano, will present a recital at 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, in Bengtson Auditorium, RSL Hall. Mark Votapek is assistant professor of cello at the University of Arizona School of Music and has served as principal cellist of the Honolulu Symphony and associate principal cellist of the Saint Louis Symphony. Pianist Ralph Votapek has made hundreds of appearances with major American orchestras; partnered by such legendary conductors as Rafael Kubelik, William Steinberg and Erich Leinsdorf; and is professor emeritus of piano at the Michigan State University College of Music. This event is free and open to the public.

GUEST ARTIST RECITAL: VIOLA AND PIANOVisiting artists Roger Chase, viola, and Michiko Otaki, piano, will present a recital at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12, in Davis Hall, GBPAC. Chase is a celebrated viola soloist and chamber musician who has performed in major cities throughout the U.K., U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, the Middle East and more. Otaki, who regularly collaborates with Chase, is a stellar pianist who has recorded and toured with the Slovak Sinfonietta, Bohemian Chamber Philharmonic, Brno Chamber Soloists and the Pilsen Philharmonic. This event is free and open to the public.
BENEFIT CONCERT WITH MIKE SHAWMike Shaw, a contemporary Christian vocalist, will perform at the Riverview Conference Center in Cedar Falls. All proceeds will benefit the Waverly Health Center Birthing Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $15 for college students, $20 for the general public and $50 for a pack of four. The concert is organized by Public Relations Campaign Methods.
